Konica Minolta implements a transparent all-in-one service for carbon neutral office and production printing

With "enabling carbon neutrality" Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe launches an all-in-one carbon emissions offsetting service for carbon neutral printing. This holistic and transparent offering provides corporate office environments and providers of professional print products with an easy way to offset carbon emissions that occur during the printing process without any additional work. With this product launch Konica Minolta once again demonstrates its pioneering role in leading sustainable services.

From July 2015, Konica Minolta is offering its customers the opportunity to minimise their impact on the environment and help prevent global warming, through carbon neutral printing. With the new service "“enabling carbon neutrality" Konica Minolta offers customers an end-to-end solution in climate protection through the ability to identify their footprint, reduce and offset this all at the same time. Customers benefit from a transparent and resilient concept, which guarantees easy and stress-free implementation. Production printers can add value to their print products and win more jobs while corporate customers can disclose transparency and emphasise their commitment to climate protection in their overall CSR endeavours. In collaboration with the climate protection expert ClimatePartner, Konica Minolta currently supports four certified carbon offsetting projects all over the world: Wind Energy in Bandirma, Turkey; Hydropower in Renun, Indonesia; Methane Gas Recovery in Liaoning, China and Hydropower in Santa Catarina, Brazil. Besides this carbon offsetting effect, their support of these projects promotes positive social effects where they are really needed. For example, they support the creation of jobs, improvements in standards of hygiene or better education for the local population.

Dr. Teresa Haller-Mangold, Team Manager Corporate Branding & Sustainability, Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe GmbH emphasises: "Konica Minolta’s guiding principles of climate compensation are: avoid – reduce – compensate. From its early history, Konica Minolta has supported sustainable printing. One example of this is the construction of lightweight devices with low power consumption. Furthermore, many of the materials Konica Minolta uses for its printers are made of recycled material. Our new programme ‘enabling carbon neutrality’ fits perfectly into our general strategy where sustainability is regarded as an essential corporate strategy alongside our constant efforts to provide products to our clients that really matter and make their lives easier."

Push the button for immediate and sustainable carbon offsetting

As soon as Konica Minolta customers decide to implement "enabling carbon neutrality" they are only a few steps away from climate neutral printing. Customers can print as usual with their Konica Minolta systems, while the total emissions over the lifetime of each device will be calculated. Those calculated emissions are being offset through certified carbon offset projects. The offsetting of the customer’s printing is evidenced with certificates and labels that allow the displaying of all activities publicly in marketing materials, press releases and internal communication channels.

Konica Minolta – role model in sustainability

The recipient of many renowned sustainability awards ranging from RobecoSAM Gold Class Sustainability Award to the Blue Angel Mark (RAL-UZ 171), included in the FTSE4Good Global Index and Dow Jones Sustainability Index, Konica Minolta practices what it preaches: Konica Minolta commits to sustainability by offsetting all its printing (office as well as in-house production) within the European Headquarters of Konica Minolta Business Solutions in Germany through "enabling carbon neutrality". Those activities are in line with the environmental long-term goals of Konica Minolta, summarized in the Eco Vision 2050 which focuses on reducing CO2 emissions throughout the product life cycle by 80% by 2050 (compared to 2005 fiscal year levels), promoting recycling and the effective use of the earth’s limited resources as well as working to promote restoration and preservation of biodiversity.
